Orthodontic Assisting (OA) Exam
To become a DANB® Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA®), you are required to take two component exams: Orthodontic Assisting (OA) and Infection Control (ICE®).
You may take the OA separately or during the COA test administration. If you take the OA exam separately, you must also pass the ICE exam within a five-year period to earn DANB COA certification.
Step One: Check Your Eligibility
To apply for the OA exam, you need to meet certain eligibility requirements. There are four possible pathways to meet these eligibility requirements. These pathways are explained in full detail on the exam eligibility requirements page.
Step Two: Complete the Application and Submit the Fee
To apply for DANB’s OA exam, please download and review the COA application packet. This contains the OA application, application requirements and deadlines. The fee for the OA exam is $250 (check the OA application packet for exceptions).
Step Three: Schedule and Take the Exam
Within four weeks after your OA exam application is received and processed, you will receive a notice from DANB that contains instructions on how to schedule your test. You may refer to the COA application packet to find out what to expect during and after the exam.
